Rennellese Sign Language is a near-extinct indigenous sign language spoken by the deaf of Rennell Island in the Solomon Islands, which has a significant amount of congenital deafness. It was developed at about 1915 by a deaf aboriginal person named Kagobai, who was also used by the hearing people of the community.

ClassificationEdit

Henri Wittmann posits that Rennellese Sign Language is language isolate, though one created through a trans-cultural diffusion from a pre-existing sign language.
